band!au: The Robin's Sound?

Whenever I read any of the brilliant fics in the Band!AU or draw any of its members, I try to figure out some kind of sound for the band.

I'm sure we've all visualised the band differently and I'd love to hear how everyone diagrams The Robin's sound <3

Personally, I think of them as a mix of Vampire Weekend (the quirky vocals, eclectic instrument choices and arrangements...) with the added campiness, dramatic vocals, bitching harmonies and humour of Ludo

What do think? Post videos so we can see/hear!

I hear them (in their second album) as sort of like R.E.M. in Automatic for the People:

But it may also be said that I have a very, very different image of the Robins than the stories I have been reading lately seem to indicate, so I dunno.
By the way, have you seen this yet?
Hmmmm they're more like tThe Killers to me...

Or Birds of Tokyo if you like them more rock?

Of if we're going weebo then there's L'Arc~en~Ciel:

And then Timmy's solo might sound like this:

Depends on my mood really. That's the beauty of fictional bands. :D

Oh yes I'm a sad weebo, why do you ask?
Allow me to tell you I absolutely love your pick?

(and Dick would totally wear the feather jacket of The Killers' singer.)

Good question... I don't really 'hear' them? It all depends on the song (and the tone of the story the song is in :D).

Mix and match :
(for Gotham's Shadow), then
a bit of ... depends on a lot, but nothing is fixed.
Very much yes *am in love with Airship pirate!*
I was thinking about this today! Clearly our minds are melded or something.

I actually imagined them having a similar sound to Vampire Weekend (hurr I have Contra on vinyl and just want to listen to it stupid record player being broken).

I also think of them being somewhat similar to Phoenix but maybe that's because for some reason I always associate Tim with the song 'Rome'. Except not the same singing voice, just the same sorta beats and music.

I don't actually listen to that many bands with male leads.

Actually oooh maybe Arcade Fire???

One of the songs that I'm writing for the second album 'Robinson Park' I imagine in my head as a very Decemberists style song, but that's just me.

Thinky thinky thinky
I had Phoenix's Long Distance Call in mind actually!

First and foremost I have to own up to being a whore for Australian music. Just something about it.

Basment Birds - "Waiting For You" They just remind me of the band jamming and playing in a mellow and acoustic way. Even the film clip shows it.

I have many, many more...
Eskimo Joe - Foreign Land. The start of this song reminds me of Damian’s song - Fathers and Sons of the Never Alone album.

Tim Freedman - Charlie No.3. This is kinda what Gotham Shadows sounds like in my head.

Gyroscope - Fast Girl. It’s the harmonies. I can hear the guys just belting into it and Steph rocking out.

Elbow - Forget Myself. Not Australian but very good. This is what clubbing in downtown Gotham sounds like to me.

Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails, Red Wine. Twisted Smile is a song about the Joker and the fear he induces. This song reminds me of that.

Bernard Fanning - Wish You Well. Ignore the film clip but it’s one I can see them jamming in the back of the van.

For Tim:

The Lawrence Arms... always The Lawrence Arms (preferably their acoustic punk stuff):

Three days, no happy endings/ Highways, I’m hallucinating/ I wish I wasn’t so mathematic/ I wish I hadn’t overheated.

I've abandoned old identities, Skin I couldn't fit into...

And this part:

Can I get much blinder?/ Can I kick myself much harder?/ Have I accepted this to torture myself?/ If you can't see me, have I invented you?

I'm barely breathing./ You're so easy to believe in./ And it's so depressing,/ That I'm always second guessing myself.

As a whole, for the band, I see a mix between The Strokes and then... possibly Muse... like their cover of "Can't take My Eyes Off of You".

I don't know! It's so hard, because I get this stadium Rock vibe from Dick... Hm. Of course there is always the RHCP:

(Gets good at around 1:00 minute for the true 'Rock-alt-vibe".

Everyone had really cool responses, by the way. I love that we all think of something different!
I've never heard of The Lawrence Arms but I like, I like! <3

My religious status on Facebook is Matthew Bellamy- his genius is beyond coherence D: "Nature 1" makes me think a bit of The Robins too but comparing my favourite band to my favourite comic characters is just too much I cannot..type...too..awesome..*dies*

ALSO GHOSTWOOD THEY ARE AMAZING. I wish they would stop touring America and come back to Australia. I feel in love with them just before they left. I did the exact same thing with Sherlock's Daughter ):

Ghostwood can be kind of trippy, when I first saw them it was in a little dark bar and TIME STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. It was so amazing.
lol "feel" I meant "fell" I got too excited to type properly ^_^;

That's a brilliant mix up! :D

I can't say I've heard either of those bands but they would mix well. Nice choices! Thank you for sharing these with us.

Take Back the City by Snow Patrol reminded me of Gotham even before I got into the fandom a couple months ago. I could picture The Robins singing it at some sort of Rally to Repopulate Gotham thing. :)
